Wheat Attack!
An hour after I ate dinner Friday night my abdomen began to hurt. It felt like my muscles were cramping. I thought swimming 3 days in a row had done my abs in and they were ready to explode out of my body. I continued to walk around Venice for First Fridays with my friend. Shops and galleries stay open later on the first Friday of the month. It is the best place for people watching and cute boy finding. I was wearing wedges which I noted was a bad idea and continued to try to stretch my stomach any way I could. We finally found a store where I could sit down, you would be surprised how many arty chairs there are for display only. I realized it wasn't my muscles that were sore, but that my abdomen was swollen or bloated. I've never really experienced bloating, so I wasn't completely sure. Then came the cough, the cough where I cough up this distinctive tasting glob of mucus that I feel comes from my sinuses. WHEAT...aaaahhhh my small intestine is becoming inflamed! Stupid, stupid restaurant!
It was dumb of me to even try to eat at this restaurant, all they have are exotic mixes of cold salads. I double, no triple checked with the server that wheat was not used in their sauces. I tried to get him to ask someone in the back , but that didn't happen, he seemed confident he knew what he was talking about. When he directed me away from a potato dish saying it had gluten, I said no I can eat potatoes and rice. Does everyone think gluten is like starch....It could have been in the ahi tuna dish, it had sesame seeds and probably soy sauce. Or it could have been in the chicken salad. Its hard keeping up with gluten freeness. There is no spontaneity....
I barely slept that night and the next day I felt like my insides had a meeting with a ninja. No more on the whim eating out anymore or I just have to be a really annoying customer.
