Well happy half birthday to me!
It is rather exciting to celebrate my half birthday right at the beginning of the new year, kind of like a 6 month renewal and I am rather fond of fireworks that seem to appear close to my celebrations. The half birthday idea is silly, but why not celebrate, finding the joy in small things makes life grand!
Starting the day off right I attended church where I heard an incredible sermon on Jeremiah 29 1-11, Jeremiah 29:11 is one of my all time favorite verses along with lots of other Christians...."For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." The pastor today not only gave the historical reference to the whole passage, but to make us aware of verse 7: "Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper." God is talking to the Jews who have been exiled to Babylon. The Babylonians are saying forget your God that has forsaken you and assimilate with us. The false prophets said reject the Babylonian way and follow God, but the true prophet of God, Jeremiah tells the people to live among the Babylonians and live by God's way to bless the different people and therefore bless themselves....The pastor's main point was how we can live in our community and live for God, take notice that God has placed you where you are for a purpose, we only thought we lived here because of the weather...but stop asking what the city, the community, what God can do for you, but what you can do for others, what you are doing now, how can you live to bless others. I felt like God was talking directly to me, this has been my prayer recently, this is what I have been thinking and praying over, how can I share my many blessings with others. The best example I can give is my frustration with living right here. I thought I had to move to Dallas or LA or somewhere to fit in, to be able to be something. Instead my attention has been redirected, that I don't necessarily need this place to help me live, but by living I will help this place. By living verse 7 we will be given verse 11. Oh my goodness, I have to listen to the sermon again and write down all my other thoughts, it was such a great statement of faith, testimony and a beautiful depiction of Christian life, almost like saying stop asking if God exists, but why do I exist, not what can God do for me, but what can I do for God, what can God do through me. Then service concluded with communion and we still don't have gluten free bread so I wrapped the red juice soaked bread body of Christ in a tissue...hmmmm I think some gluten intolerance education needs to happen...
I came home to have lunch with my family and then went to Anthropologie to check out this bedding that I have been dreaming about since before Thanksgiving! I am sooooo excited. When I got my big girl queen bed last year, I made something work for a cover and used some of my old things from my twin because I hadn't seen any bedding I wanted. Anthropologie has amazing, fun bedding and I finally saw the colors I wanted and well it takes me awhile to accept change, but I initiated the change of colors today!! Happy half birthday to me!
My parents and I attempted to go see The King's Speech and half way through the line, they announced it was sold out, so we bought tickets for the next showing....AMAZING, that story was beautiful! I don't want to discuss the details just yet because I want to give you the chance to see it, SO SEE IT and I'll write about it later. Just recognize the whole person care and the attention to not only physical health but to mental. Oh it was glorious the encouragement to keep going on my path of patient care in unconventional ways, tirelessly seeking the truth out and finding people that want to work with all of you and not be blindsided by a diagnosis. So so so so so so GOOD...Colin Firth Oscar right NOW and well everyone else deserves one too. I appreciated the brilliant British humor along with the careful use of music and silence. The cinematography beautifully framed the struggles and success spilling out on the screen which was complimented by the well crafted sets and wardrobe that set time, place and mood in muted colors. The King's Speech is the kind of story I want to be a part of, one of perseverance, hard-work, determination, dedication to manage or correct a physical problem while surrounded by those that believe and are as willing as you are to find the answers to succeed.
Sprinkles cupcakes always make things better and since I couldn't be outside and enjoy the sun setting over the ocean due to winter rain, gluten free red velvet cupcakes were the solution! I couldn't have wished for a better (personal mental health) day :D
