The Hospital: Day 1

The hospital. I hate coming here, but now my lung problems need to be treated with IV antibiotics. The first time I was hospitalized was 2 years ago. I still like to relish in the fact that I wasn't hospitalized for 21 years. CF patients are known for constant lung infections. Daily breathing treatments are suppose to reduce lung infections that need to be treated with IV antibiotics. Treating infections is important to prevent or at least reduce lung damage and pulmonary function. The worst part of being here, is half the time I don't even feel that sick. Honestly the main reason I have to be hospitalized is to get a picc line (semi-permanent IV line) and get a bunch of tests done. It is a lot easier to get tests done when you live above them. I'm usually here for a week and then go to continue IVs at home with a home health care nurse. So its like my life has to semi pause every time this happens. I don't see how I'm going to be productive if I have to come in here more than once a year. If the antibiotics and the life threatening disease wasn't enough, dealing with the health care staff is a whole other story.

At least I have a sweet room, the biggest one on the floor. This stay won't be too depressing because of that. Now to survive all the staff.

Half the people I talked to today that were doing some test or something said goodbye and good luck. I think its kind of awkward to tell someone in the hospital good luck. Well if medical science can't save you, I hope your lucky!

"Is there any chance you might be pregnant?", Uh no, yes I'm sure, thank you once again for pointing out that I'm single AND sick.

And the most painful part of my day was when this lab tech drew my blood. (DON'T READ ON IF YOU DON'T LIKE TMI) She drew the needle out some and blood started coming out of my arm. I have never seen this. She then expected the vial to keep filling with blood. Hello you don't have the needle in the right place! So she pulls out the needle and goes to my other arm. SH&T....they have to draw my blood like 4 times in 24 hrs to check the antibiotic levels, I have to preserve my skin!!!!!

Now to sleep oh wait I'm in a hospital.
