Yoga and Writing Workshop

Using yoga to inspire your muse, was the tag line to my yoga studio's workshop yesterday. I thought why not try it out, learn a new set of exercises to develop my writing skills. I go to Yogaworks, but had never been to this particular studio.  The room was huge and almost full.  All woman of different ages and a couple of Asian guys were lead by a poet, writer and then a yoga instructor who was also a writer. We started off with chants, one of the teachers explained the goddess of the day...I kind of remembered what she was referring too from my Eastern religion class in college.  After chanting for a couple of minutes she explained more things from the Hindu religion. They really have some beautiful images and descriptions of higher beings, creativity and how the earth and the spiritual world mingle. Yoga is a beautiful expression of life, the many different ways to twist and use your body is amazing. The funniest part of the day was the animal sequence, most poses are named after animals, we were suppose to think of the characteristics of each animal. I think it is fascinating yogi's years ago studied nature and animals to develop the practice of yoga. I love how yoga is playful and a serious strength workout. At first, I enjoyed it because of the body movement and breathe connection, but now I celebrate it for its artistic expression.

The four hour workshop was a sequence of yoga positions and prompts to free write. At one point my rhyming abilities kicked in. I rarely use poetry as my storytelling style, but I was flowing. The prompt was, write a scene about a misheard word, like bite/light, mice/nice...I just wrote down a sentence as I flooded my mind with words that rhymed and I ended up writing this...
Sally was at the store
her life was a bore
she went to the help desk
too see a man with a burly chest
She asked excuse me
 I need some tea
he looked at her and smiled
and politely pointed at the floor
she looked down and around
but didn't understand
she said again, I would like tea
He laughed and pointed towards the door
Oh no I don't need to go
but I need something to drink
Oh pardon me, he winked
and came around the desk and said aisle 3
she smiled and said would you like to show me

Did you figure out what the misheard word was.....She said tea, he thought she said pee....ahahaha silly, I know.
